Over the next few weeks on CPO Rising, we are going to re-publish episodes from our “Procurement Rising” podcast series. In this podcast series, I interview Chief Procurement Officers and Best-in-Class procurement leaders as well as technology and business experts working in procurement and supply management. Our goal is to find people who are passionate about procurement and have progressive ideas/views to share and interesting stories to tell. If this describes you, let us know. Please complete this Guest Intake Form and submit it to us. Also, if you’re interested in sponsoring it, send us a note.
Episode 106 – Chris Shanahan, Chief Procurement Officer at Thermo Fisher Scientific
Like many procurement professionals, Chris Shanahan sort of “fell” into the space. After earning a degree in purchasing and materials management from the Limerick Institute of Technology, Chris began his career with Essilor, working in a warehouse where he essentially packed lenses into boxes. After six years of progressive responsibility, Chris graduated to a purchasing role, which is how he arrived in procurement.
Now, after a long and impressive career that included nearly 20 years at Becton Dickinson (BD), Chris has taken over the role of CPO at ThermoFisher Scientific. On this week’s pod, Andrew talks with Chris about his career and experience working in procurement, taking over at ThermoFisher, and how he launched a full P2P program during the pandemic with a distributed workforce.
The podcast is now available on Apple, Spotify, Stitcher, Google, or wherever you get your podcasts.
As always, special thanks go to the Ardent Partners Podcast production team as well as The Sheila Divine and Cowboy Junkies for their musical contributions.
