Happy Presidents’ Day

Happy Presidents’ Day

Presidents’ Day is one of 11 federal holidays in the United States, and its origins can be found dating all the way back to the death of George Washington in 1799. President Washington was celebrated for his contributions to the founding of this country, and his birthday, February 22, became a day of remembrance. In 1885, it officially became a national holiday, the fifth in the country at the time, following Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Independence Day, and Thanksgiving. In 1971, the holiday was officially changed to “Presidents’ Day,” to honor the contributions of both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
