Ardent’s “2K20 Series” – Three Pillars for Managing a Remote (and Productive) Workforce Session

Ardent Partners hosted The CPO Rising 2K20 Virtual Series – The Resiliency Imperative as a way to bring together our global community of procurement, finance, and supply management professionals and collectively tackle the big issues we were all facing and continue to face as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. As a special treat for all our readers, Ardent is excited to present the recorded sessions from that Virtual Series.

Earlier this year, the vast majority of the global workforce began the biggest remote work experiment in business history. For some leaders, managing a remote team was natural. For many others, however, it was a struggle for consistency, trust, and productivity. Toptal’s VP of Talent Operations, Christy Schumann, joined Ardent to discuss how business leaders could effectively manage thriving and productive remote teams. Highlights include:

  • Being a great remote leader = being a great remote worker. From the fundamentals (strong wifi connection and the right software and hardware) to more mental aspects (work/life balance), remote leaders become great by being truly great remote workers.
  • Reimagining “proximity collaboration” is critical. One of the missing traits of remote work is “proximity collaboration,” the quick chats in the kitchen, hallway, elevator, or by the water cooler. Reimaging this taken-for-granted business attribute is crucial for productivity and camaraderie.
  • Flexibility is fundamental. Not everyone will adjust to remote work right away; business leaders must be flexible in their thinking and within their team guidelines.
