When I predicted earlier this year that “Supply Risk in 2020 would become a multi-headed beast” during our annual Big Trends and Predictions webinar in January or that when we published the special report, Bad Moon Rising: Global Supply Chain Risk Reaches a 20-Year High, I had no idea that we would get here that fast. But, here we are.
In a matter of weeks, our world has been turned upside down and new words, phrases (social distancing), and hashtags (#alonetogether) have entered the global lexicon (FYI – here’s a glossary of terms). At the local level, Ardent has enacted a series of policies designed to ensure the safety of our employees and business continuity. At the company level, the four CPOs I spoke to in the past week are each working to ensure their remote staffs stay active, engaged, and very focused on the matters at hand. For three of them, these “matters at hand” have significant consequences on the near-term performance of their companies. At the industry level, to put it mildly, we are in flux.
In response to these trying times, my firm has decided to launch a new virtual series called CPO Rising 2K20 – The Resiliency Imperative which will kickoff on March 31st and run through May 7. This series will a number of virtual sessions each week that will be available live (and by recording so that you may listen to them at your convenience). The series will culminate with a a Virtual Summit on May 7 that you will not want to miss.
Our goal is to bring the global community of procurement and supply management leaders together around a series of presentations, panels, and interviews focused on the current state of global affairs and what business leaders can do to support their teams, companies, and supply chains. We’ve started to assemble an impressive series of presentations led by distinguished experts across multiple fields so that we may hear their views/insights/perspectives/strategies on the pandemic and its impact on supply management and overall business operations.
We want to be sensitive to the major issues facing different countries around the world, but we also want to provide information and support to those teams that are facing extreme duress. I know that many of you are being impacted both on the supplier side and on the staff/organization side making this a doubly-challenging time. But, I also know that many of you are coming up with great ideas to navigate the storm and ensure that your teams and your companies remain resilient and agile.
My hope is that you will be able to join the conversation and share your ideas with your peers. Yes, the times are tough and things may get tougher, but these tough times can also unify us. We can be #ResilientTogether.
