I am pleased to announce that the survey for our annual “State of Procurement and the CPO” report is now open. If you have 15 minutes to spare today or later this week to complete the survey, I would be most appreciative. By taking the survey, you have an opportunity to help advance the collective knowledge of the entire procurement profession AND get a full view into the current “State of Procurement” when the report publishes.

This 15th annual CPO report is one that I first started writing in 2006 and has become, in many ways, the defining report at Ardent Partners. Over the years the report has tackled various themes, including People and Spend Management (2006), the Rise of the CPO (2008), the Tough Times… of the global recession (2009), Procurement-led Innovation (2011), Procurement Agility (2015), and Procurement’s need to Expand Value (2019), to name a few.
The 2020 iteration of this report is particularly salient at this time of the year. There is significant uncertainty, disruption, and risk within procurement teams, as well as within their extended supply chains. Chief Procurement Officers find themselves at the end of a bull market, the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in all likelihood, the beginning of a much-anticipated economic recession. At such a tumultuous moment, we want to know:
- What is the state of procurement, and the state of the CPO?
- What are the top business goals and objectives that CPOs and procurement teams are setting this year?
- What are the top pressures facing CPOs today and the hurdles they’ll have to overcome in order to achieve their goals?
- What are the “game changers” that will help them scale these hurdles?
- Are technology adoption levels increasing or stagnating in 2020?
- And how did procurement teams perform in 2019?
These are just some of the questions for which we’re seeking answers in this year’s State of Procurement survey.
Readers of this site know that the data we collect from the survey is used to define Best-in-Class procurement performance for 2020 and fuels many new articles on this site. The report will also have strong linkage to our 2020 CPO Rising Summit that will be held in Boston this fall (watch for our upcoming announcement).
Anyway, I would greatly appreciate it if you or one of your colleagues could take a few minutes this week to participate (practitioners only). Thanks!
