Here’s a great interview staring Ardent Partners’ Senior Research Analyst and tech futurist, Matthew York, and SpendHQ’s Director of Product Marketing, Constantine Limberakis, on the role that artificial (or augmented) intelligence is playing and can play in the procurement world. It is part of SpendHQ’s podcast series, Spend Insights, featuring supply management leaders, as well as industry thought leaders on the experiences that shape the world of sourcing and procurement. Be sure to give them a listen.
Here are some select quotes from Matt
“The bigger term [of AI] is more of a continual goal and process that computer scientists and data scientists are continuing to push forward. Machine learning is a part of that. There’s still value in that, but it’s part of this bigger push towards artificial intelligence.”
“If you have better data quality, then machines can take over more. But as long as you have to spend time deconflicting or validating data that’s offline or irregular, you’re going to need humans to do that.”
“How you handle the question of build versus buy for AI is based on a variety of different factors. What is your bench strength – do you have the resources on hand to be able to get into a program that has algorithms behind it to tweak it and adjust it to your needs?”
…Stay tuned for Part Two of this conversation as Constantine interviews Ardent Partners’ Founder and Chief Research Officer, Andrew Bartolini, on the advancements made within spend analysis and the state of spend under management within the average procurement team.
