The Future of Work Tech Roundup returns today with news and updates across the spectrum of contingent workforce, digital staffing, and workforce management solutions.

Workspend Acquires DCR Workforce’s MSP Business

Earlier this week, New Jersey-based Managed Service Provider (MSP) Workspend announced that it acquired the MSP business of DCR Workforce (whose Vendor Management System (VMS) solution, SmartTrack, was acquired by spend management solution Coupa last year). This is a significant move for a major MSP player like Workspend, as it will allow the firm to scale tremendously over the course of 2019. DCR’s existing MSP clients will be afforded exciting new capabilities, as well as offerings that will help them enhance their management of non-employee talent.

“At Workspend, we’re constantly evaluating opportunities for growth both organically and inorganically, including strategic relationships and acquisitions,” said Dan Rothberg, President of Workspend. “Acquiring DCR’s MSP business allows us the opportunity to increase our reach and scale by providing services to an even greater array of geographies and industries. We are thrilled to welcome the DCR Workforce MSP team into the Workspend family. DCR has built a loyal set of clients and we look forward to continuing their great service while adding new and innovative solutions to provide further value.”

Shiftgig Transforms Its Business Model in Strategic Software Move

Chicago-based Shiftgig has announced that it is transforming its business model to software-only, leading with its flagship Deploy offering. This is a significant move for the digital/on-demand staffing solution, which will now leverage Deploy’s deep machine learning-led functionality to help its clients execute better-fitting talent matches (not to mention the added depth of insights into skills, preferences, and engagement levels).

“Great customer service combined with great technology will lead the race for the future of on-demand work. LGC Hospitality and Headway Workforce Solutions intend to lead the industry,” said Rick Bowman, CEO of Shiftgig. “The Future of Work is clear: workers continue to demand increased flexibility and control, and clients demand staffing firms act with speed and agility without sacrificing quality. With every staffing agency who chooses Deploy by Shiftgig, we’re committed to supporting their path towards innovation.”

Pipeline Talent Solutions and VectorVMS Create Strategic Partnership

Two “newer” contingent workforce management solutions, VectorVMS (a Vendor Management System “spinoff” from longtime workforce management provider PeopleFluent) and Managed Service Provider (MSP) Pipeline Talent Solutions, have announced a strategic partnership that will cater to mid-market businesses with flexible and integrated MSP/VMS capabilities.

“We are confident that our strategic partnership with VectorVMS will provide companies in the mid-market with new and innovative options to fulfill their immediate contingent workforce management needs,” said Curt Paquette, President of Pipeline Talent Solutions. “We look forward to shaping the workforce solutions and MSP landscape while delivering flexible programs that set our clients up for success. Marc Husain, Vector’s Managing Director, is equally committed to our integrated offerings and working as a team to drive innovation.”

Although much of the “Future of Work technology” focus has been on “newer” offerings like digital staffing and artificial intelligence, it is interesting to see additional players in the traditional CWM solutions marketplace, especially as the average business continues to experience rising utilization of non-employee talent.
