During our annual CPO Rising 2017 Summit, we hosted our first ever CPO Honors Gala Dinner. During the Gala Dinner, four distinct CPOs and/or procurement teams received CPO Honors awards for their outstanding work and achievement in procurement in 2017, while two highly-regarded CPOs were inducted into the CPO Rising Hall of Fame. The CPO Honors were developed by Ardent Partners to recognize individual and team achievement in the current year. We were thrilled to honor these Best-in-Class performers. From leadership and innovation to technology usage and team performance, these four winners have demonstrated that top-performing procurement departments are a competitive advantage that can drive bottom line results.

The Leadership Award (CPO of the Year): Stephen Listzwan

The Leadership Award is presented to the CPO whose department has achieved new performance heights as a result of their direct involvement, leadership, and exceptional executive management. The winner effectively lead his team in the face of adversity and new business challenges, and became an enterprise-wide champion by actively instituting collaboration with key stakeholders across the greater organization. The 2017 winner of this award is Stephen Listzwan, head of procurement, Shire Pharmaceuticals.

In 2017, Listzwan and the procurement team at Shire effectively managed the complex issues that arose as a result of a merger. These issues included 4x headcount growth, increased external spend, and demand for an accelerated integration to rapidly deliver significant synergy savings. They brought together two organizations with different operating footprints, organizational structures, and procurement models, and were critical in building a new organization capable of meeting these challenges. In 2017, they delivered a 2.5x increase in cost savings delivered over historical levels and created a new procurement organization and operating model that delivered an ROI of 15x (a 3x increase over the prior year). By increasing the team’s capabilities, they were able to establish procurement as a strategic asset to the greater enterprise.

“I am extremely honored to receive the CPO of the Year award at the CPO Rising 2017 Summit, especially considering the experience and leadership pedigree of the competition in the category,” said Listzwan. “The procurement profession continues to remain at the leading edge of driving significant transformational improvements in many world-class organizations and I am thankful that Ardent Partners recognizes the contributions of our great profession through their annual awards.”

On behalf of the Ardent Partners team, I would like to congratulate Stephen Listzwan and the procurement team at Shire Pharmaceuticals on this great achievement.
