An Epic Welcome to Procurement

An Epic Welcome to Procurement

There’s a new meme making its way around the “internets” courtesy of a Georgia Tech sophomore’s welcome speech at this year’s Freshman Convocation. It’s less than two minutes and since you’re here, it’s worth the time to view. I wonder if any Chief Procurement Officers welcome their new staffers or kick off their annual meetings with such enthusiasm, humor, and passion. Shouldn’t they? How would it play – you may ask.

To approximate a CPO welcome (and for your enhanced viewing pleasure), imagine that when this guy says “Georgia Tech” he really means “Procurement.”

You’ll note that I’ve transcribed the speech below with a few choice procurement additions. I think it works 😀

Let us now and forever welcome all the new procurement professionals who bravely join our fight with passion and joy! After all, it’s gonna be one helluva career!

We chose Georgia Tech Procurement because we want to do the impossible. and this school business function is equipped with the resources and faculty to help us do just that.

And so, in the words of Sir Isaac Newton “if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”

Georgia Tech Procurement is proud of its many traditions but the one I find most exciting is our tradition of excellence

Our mission as students procurement professionals is not to follow in the footsteps of the astronauts, Nobel Prize winners and presidents who preceded us, but to exceed their footsteps, crush the shoulders of the giants upon whom we stand.

We here are such innovative people, so I am telling you, IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD, YOU’RE at Georgia Tech IN PROCUREMENT. YOU CAN DO THAT!

IF YOU WANT TO BUILD THE IRON MAN SUIT SAVE OUR COMPANY MILLIONS, YOU CAN DO THAT, YOU’RE at Georgia Tech IN PROCUREMENT. YOU CAN DO THAT!

IF YOU WANT TO PLAY THEME MUSIC DURING your convocation TEAM MEETING LIKE A BADASS, YOU CAN DO THAT, YOU’RE at Georgia Tech IN PROCUREMENT. WE CAN DO THAT! I AM DOING THAT!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your acceptance and brace yourselves for a helluva ride on your way to becoming a helluva engineer procurement pro.

Can I get an Amen? How about a retweet?
