  Why is it that training if often overlooked until we have an obvious deficiency in one or more skill sets?  I like the &#039;over arching training theme&#039; the one CPO takes with his staff and I suspect it breeds synergies amongst their direct reports.  Training should push our purchasing resources to refine existing skills while also developing new skill sets that make them more efficient and strategic.  I routinely tell my team that if they think they&#039;re top quartile today and do nothing to add new skills to their tool box, they&#039;ll be bottom quartile in 3-4 years and &#039;obsolete&#039; shortly thereafter.
