I live in Denver and do not know of any local CPO networking groups. I have met many CPO level individuals here who did not come up through the typical supply chain or purchasing organization, but had good relationships or experience elsewhere so they are assigned a tour in the CPO role. These individuals in particular have a long way to go down the procurement learning curve before they really understand the function and can improve it.

We have ISM and APICS networking groups, but they tend to be focused on the practitioner level instead of the executive level. I would love to help facilitate the development of a local CPO group, any succesful models you know of would be of great value.
Best!

I agree, it is a lost opportunity for most. But some are taking advantage. I am actually meeting with a group of procurement executives in Italy this week that gets together twice a year as a large group and several other times in regions.

Nice post. It is amazing to me how little this happens. When I was senior IT exec of Turner Construction, we had a group of about 30 CIO’s in the construction industry that got together on a regular basis to dive deep into topics that helped us across all areas that we were responsible for. Made a big difference. Well worth the effort.
