Recently I performed my first eSourcing session and the result was really amazing. My personal experience is the actual bidding process is only the top of the ice berg. In order to get the best result you need to communicate the hole process so each stakeholder (both internal and external) fully understands the idea behind eSourcing. As it is just a transparent and structured way to perform a tender process with benefits for all parties involved.

eSourcing is here to stay with a huge potential both re competitive pricing but also in order to optimize the daily work in the procurement department.

I love that as a VP of Sourcing, you get to do all the things we wrote and talked about. I'm jealous ;-)

Happy to report that we regularly use eSourcing tools at my company (large financial services) - services, software, IT maintenance, construction projects. And not necessarily an auction for each sourcing project. Most of mine are RFPs and the ability to standardize the intake of responses allows me to get to so many other value-add projects. Coming from first the consulting side and then the analyst side of things, I suppose I am lucky enough to have landed in a situation where technology is welcomed...and actually used.

Betina -

One of my old colleagues used to say that this "fight" is bigger than all of us. We have collectively come a long long way in the past decade, but there's so much more to do.

Also, thanks for sharing the word about CPO Rising to your Linkedin network. It is very much appreciated.

Andrew, it is really great to have this from someone like you, who has been working with facts and research within this subject for so long. I have been selling Scanmarket eSourcing for 10 years and am faced with such myths every day, but when I respond to them as an eSourcing Sales person my words do not carry the same weight as yours. Thank you! Betina Nygaard

Carlos - I feel your pain.

eSourcing 2.0 is an attempt to change that discussion. With eSourcing 2.0, buyers can determine the negotiation rules and who's involved, but they must use the system to capture final requirements and final bids.

Start using it, then start using it well.

thanks for the comments!
