Now that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season has come and gone, it is a great time to catch up on some webinars to illuminate your organization’s understanding of contingent workforce management (CWM) and bolster your programs. Today’s article recaps two webinars that featured Ardent’s resident CWM expert and thought leader, Christopher J. Dwyer, who not only highlighted the current (and future) state of contingent workforce management, but also discussed (at-length) the implications of global compliance.

The Current (and Future) State of Contingent Workforce Management

Back on November 10, DCR Workforce, a global provider of Vendor Management System (VMS) technology and other CWM services, hosted and sponsored a webcast that featured deep discussions of the current state of the non-employee workforce market and the implications of its growth on businesses across the world. Featured hot topics of the event included:

  • The past, present, and future of how independent talent is found, engaged, sourced, and managed. Last month’s webinar highlighted the true progression of the contingent workforce industry, from the traditional sourcing via staffing suppliers to the new, on-demand talent world we live in today.
  • The role of automation in supporting CWM programs. It’s no secret that today’s contingent workforce management programs rely on automation in some form to enable day-to-day and operational capabilities. However, the very speed of the industry’s evolution dictates that businesses reach the “next level” of their programs via deep automation that extends into SOW management, project management, talent management, and, most importantly, analytics and reporting (intelligence).
  • The future of the industry. What does the future hold? Business professionals that are involved in managing the contingent workforce arena for their organizations are asking this question on a consistent basis. The arrival of new technologies (and integrations), expansion of talent pools and networks, and the flux of talent coming into the organization are all attributes that will pave the way for 2016…and beyond.

Global Talent, Global Compliance

The progression of the contingent workforce industry is predicated on the speed of global business and the accessibility and availability of top-tier, high-quality talent. Today’s enterprises can find, engage, and source the talent they need in real-time and in an on-demand fashion. However, the various risks and issues inherent in today’s independent workforce are exacerbated when talent is engaged outside of the greater CWM program. With new sources of skillsets becoming more relied upon, more and more independent talent is engaged without a proper measure of control and visibility.

Back in September, global compliance management solution, CXC Global, hosted and sponsored a webinar featuring exclusive Ardent Partners research and content. Highlights from the event included:

  • A call-to-action for all organizations to focus more on global contractor compliance. Compliance, according to the new State of Contingent Workforce Management research study, is one of the top focal areas for businesses today as they continue to rely on independent talent. As more and more organizations source workers from outside of their localized regions, new and varied compliance risks pop up that must be addressed.
  • A high-level view of the global expansion plans for CWM programs. According to Ardent Partners research, 28% of companies today have a global CWM program in place that has been formalized andstandardized, and holds the necessary capabilities for finding, engaging, sourcing, and managing talent on a global scale across various geographies. Over the next few years, however, an additional 54% of businesses will follow suit and develop a global CWM program.
  • The role of outsourced compliance management solutions. The webinar highlighted the fact that companies currently utilizing outsourced compliance management solutions are actively driving independent contractor compliance rates that are nearly 60% higher than those organizations not using these solutions, as well as a achieving a 30% higher rate of compliance to global compliance requirements, regulations and laws concerning independent workers.
