Happy New Year!

Over the holidays, my team and I watched 250 million different YouTube videos in pursuit of one final week of inductees into our YouTube Hall of Fame for Procurement. (Sidebar: At least 25% of the videos we viewed had a baby or a cat doing something that someone thought was cute/funny. None were about procurement.)

Today’s inductee is the video of Jim Butler, the State of California’s Chief Procurement Officer being interviewed on the Fox Business Channel.  A few thoughts:

1) It is great to see a CPO as the star of a general business news report – we’d like to see more of this.

2) While 2012 may not be a great year for business and growth and many of the same problems still exist today, we seem to be a long way from where we were in January 2009.

3) If only Jim had had the foresight to be holding a baby or a cat or both during the interview, this video would certainly have had more than the 500+ views that it had as of yesterday – millions more, I am quite sure.
