MMQ – Can sourcing be strategic without the “e?”

The Context

In this day and age, can a sourcing process that eschews process automation be considered a truly strategic process? After all, this is not 1985.

Beyond the walls of procurement, enterprise processes that intentionally avoid tools that improve process efficiency, process compliance, knowledge retention, and stakeholder collaboration and communication are quickly targeted for reengineering, if not elimination.

Does the use of eSourcing change your strategy or enhance it?

Are the third-party strategic sourcing consultants that refuse to use eSourcing teaching you to fish or feeding you for a day?

Today’s MMQ is a question I address in the Ardent Partners’ first full research report entitled Sourcing in the 2010’s: The Formula for Success. The full report, which can be downloaded from this link (registration required), is being made available to the public by BravoSolution.
